CAMPING WITH YOUR DOG

QUESTION: My husband and I have finally afforded a nice camper to go camping at parks and other places. Is it true, people steal dogs at campgrounds? We have a lovely family dog that we want to take with us. We want him to run free and enjoy himself at the lakes and camp grounds. We do worry about losing him at a camp ground though. Please advise?

ANSWER: Thanks for writing and thanks for loving your dog. Do you really LOVE YOUR DOG??? If you do, you will keep him confined to your exact camping area. Exactly on your little, private, camping spot. If he wants to wander and go visit, TIE HIM UP....................................... not every one out there busily camping wants your dog to come visit................. some in fact........dislike it intensely.................... others dislike INTENSELY the fact your dog keeps barking and barking and barking...................................... Keep him confined and with you at all times. Make sure his excited barking is not annoying other campers. BE A GOOD DOG CAMPER....................................

The following is a brief discussion with "not a lady who was camping", but an acreage owner near that particular campground whose young pup/dog wandered away and went visiting there.

Yes, you are lucky that you found your dog in time. We have a lot of camp grounds around here too. More than one person has had a stray dog at their camping spot and instead of asking around who owns it, when they pack up to leave, they take the dog with them. Far worse are the idiots who let their dog run loose at a busy camp ground, the dog goes missing, they look for it for a little bit, then go home without it. Often just plain wrongfully thinking another person had stolen the dog............................ Two weeks ago, a big breed dog wandered, starving into a farm yard near my locality.

When a concerned person phoned me, I asked how far is the nearest camp ground? Just a couple of miles. I said, "Ask the person who maintains the camp ground if anyone left after reporting their dog missing"? Sure enough, the supposedly DOG LOVING campers had a schedule to keep, couldn't find their dog and left without it. The dog was the type of breed who liked water and more than likely went missing following the lake shore, ending up eventually lost in the country.

The ground keeper at the camp ground notified the owners, the dog had been found. But since they were from Mega miles away, they refused to come back for the dog............................ NO TIME, TO FAR!!!

The dog was "Euthanized".................................

So you see, "Maybe someone stole your dog".............................maybe you didn't confine it to your camping space and it wandered away and is now Starving, Lost and without Hope..................... You decide when you let your dog RUN FREE at a public campground". Your Choice Here!!! Stolen or Lost and left to Starve???
